Drexel And The Close School Celebrate Youth Impact At The Philly Service Awards

Philly Service Awards

Close School Assistant Director of Recruitment & Retention, Germyce Williams, and Director of Strategic Partnerships, Kristen Hayes, had the pleasure of representing Drexel University’s Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship at the second annual Philly Service Awards (PSA) ceremony. PSA is the first city-wide community service competition open to student groups from high schools across Philadelphia, and this year’s event saw participation from over 40 schools.

Held at Drexel’s Mitchell Auditorium, the awards presentation featured remarks from Mayor Cherelle Parker and a special appearance by Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. The event celebrated the impactful work of students citywide and highlighted the importance of community engagement at a young age.

Germyce Williams and Kristen Hayes played a key role in the evening, presenting the Drexel Impact Award to two deserving high school teams from a competitive applicant pool. Their involvement extended beyond the ceremony; earlier in the year, they also led an engaging virtual workshop on entrepreneurial thinking for participating students and teachers.

Vice Provost Youngmoo Kim was also in attendance, and the evening concluded with a dinner hosted by the PSA board, fostering connections and including a memorable conversation with Sasha Suda, CEO of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The Close School expresses deep gratitude to Germyce Williams for her vision in establishing this valuable partnership with PSA. We eagerly anticipate continued collaboration and future opportunities to empower young leaders through this meaningful initiative.
